Weather and cautions posed the biggest threat to Van Gisbergen, including a Lap 74 crash from Cody Ware, which took NASCAR more than 30 seconds to bring out the caution flag officially. "The strategy was a bit all over the place, as we knew it would be today, racing the weather, racing cars and different (pit) stops," Van Gisbergen added.

Shane van Gisbergen dominated the Grant Park 165 on July 6, 2025, winning the NASCAR Cup Series race on the Chicago Street Course and completing a weekend sweep of both the NASCAR Xfinity and Cup races from pole position.

Ty Gibbs finished in a season-best second place, followed by Tyler Reddick, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch making up the rest of the top five. A.J. Allmendinger, Ryan Preece, Alex Bowman, Austin Hill and Ross Chastain rounded out the top 10.
