The number of dead from the devastating floods across central Texas surpassed 100 as dozens of people remain missing. In Kerr County, at least 84 people died, including 28 children, according to officials.

Rescuers searched the Guadalupe River for survivors of the Texas floods that killed more than 100 people over the July Fourth holiday weekend, with an unknown number of people still missing. The basin area was crowded with families and campers preparing to enjoy the holiday when pounding rain brought about catastrophic flash floods just before dawn Friday.

Chuck Schumer asked acting Inspector General Roderick Anderson to investigate if recent NWS staff cuts had an impact on the death toll from the Texas floods.
