Hurricane Isaias slams Florida Panhandle, but the worst may not be over as dangerous impacts spread inland
Hurricane Isaias has made landfall along Florida’s Gulf Coast, unleashing life-threatening storm surge, hurricane-force winds and torrential rain. The danger is far from over, as the storm’s impacts spread inland across the Southeast and beyond.
It has been two years since Hurricane Helene struck Southwest Virginia and areas further south into Appalachia, leaving historic damage and destruction in its wake.
The answer is a resounding no. While Isaias could bring significant impacts to parts of the Southeast, the forecast for our area is nowhere near what we experienced during Helene in 2024. Rain: Periods of heavy rain are possible this weekend, with localized flooding a concern.
