The National Weather Service in Marquette has issued winter storm and gale watches for the Upper Peninsula. See projections by region.

Heavy snow is expected in parts of Michigan this week, and blizzard warnings are in effect for multiple areas.

This highly unique location had a much, much larger population in the late 1800s; today, it's probably a more interesting visit, despite its smaller numbers.

"Travel conditions will be challenging across the northern Plains, Great Lakes and east coast through Thanksgiving holiday weekend," the NWS has warned.

High winds from a winter storm have knocked out power to thousands in Michigan, with some reported wind gusts reaching 60 mph.
